Dorian Yates - The Legendary 6 times Mr.Olympia Winner!

2023-03-02 Lympo Athletes

This renowned bodybuilder with 6 Mr. Olympia champion titles under his belt will have his accomplishments immortalized by a collection of 5 custom Lympo digital sports collectibles.

Although having started training way later than most professionals, Dorian has achieved more throughout his career than most pros — 6 consecutive IFBB professional bodybuilding contest champion titles, German, Spanish, and English Grand Prix titles.

In 1984, at the age of 22, he entered his first-ever bodybuilding competition — Mr. Birmingham Novice and walked away victorious. Thus, he started to crave more victories and success. In 1985, Dorian won the Novice West Coast show and entered his first international contest — IFBB World Games where he placed 7th.

A year later, in 1986, Dorian had his first win in a major competition — EFBB British. However, in 1987 he had to take some time off due to a hip injury. But that didn’t stop him — that same year Dorian opened Temple Gym, a place catering to bodybuilders who want to achieve their goals.

A year later, Dorian made a respectable comeback by winning the British Championships. The win allowed him to become a pro. And, after another 18 months of relentless training, he was ready to make a name for himself.

Dorian Yates entered his first professional competition — the 1990 Night of Champions where he remarkably placed 2nd.

However, he was determined and the next year, in 1991, he won the competition.

That same year he also entered The Mr. Olympia Championship, where he placed 2nd. A year later, in 1992, he won Mr. Olympia — the highest title a bodybuilder can achieve.

Thus, he proved himself to be the best in the world and he held the Mr. Olympia title for 6 consecutive years.

In his final Mr. Olympia contest in 1997, Dorian won despite an injury — the injury that later forced him to retire prematurely.

Throughout his career, Dorian has been nicknamed “The Shadow” because, unlike other professional bodybuilders, he never wanted fame. He wasn’t interested in being on TV or modeling. You’d never see or hear from him — as if he hid in the shadows all year round and surprisingly entered competitions last minute, won them, and then he disappeared until the next championship was due.

Since retiring, Dorian has launched “DY Nutrition” — a company of quality sports and health supplements, as well as “DY Academy” where he helps others achieve their training goals with unique HIT (High-Intensity Training) methods Dorian created himself. Also, Yates has authored a number of autobiographies — “Blood and Guts” (1993), “A Warrior’s Story” (1998), and “From the Shadow” (2020).

And, he released two documentaries, “Inside The Shadow” (2017) and “The Original Mass Monster” (2019), as well as the “Blood and Guts” training DVD which is considered one of the best and most popular training videos ever.

Although his professional career was ended abruptly, Yates is still a respected name in the bodybuilding community. And, to honor his success, we are launching 5 custom Lympo NFTs designed around the legendary Dorian Yates.
